New position: SOTEAG Seabird Officer

The SOTEAG (Shetland Oil Terminal Environmental Advisory Group) is seeking to employ a Seabird Monitor who will be responsible for the delivery of an annual, year round and Shetland-wide seabird monitoring programme. We seek individuals who would relish the opportunity to work in Shetland and continue one of the longest running seabird monitoring programmes.

SOTEAG (Shetland Oil Terminal Environmental Advisory Group) advises on all environmental aspects surrounding the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal construction, commissioning and operations (including ad hoc reconstruction, site rehabilitation and new developments), and is planned to operate through to eventual decommissioning.

The SOTEAG Seabird Monitor will be employed by the University of St Andrews and line-manged by both Prof David Paterson (University of St Andrews) and Ms Karen Hall (Scottish Natural Heritage in Lerwick). The post holder will be based on Shetland and this post is contracted and fully funded by The Sullom Voe Association Ltd. The post-holder will shadow the current Seabird Monitor for 12 months at Grade 5 before taking on the role as a Grade 6 position.

Individuals with a higher education qualification/ MSc/ PhD or equivalent relevant experience gained in biological/ environmental science/ nature conservation or other related field are encouraged to apply. The post will particularly suit a candidate with a strong interest in and experience of seabird monitoring with well-developed communication skills (oral and written) and a good understanding of data management.
